Overview

Park rangers in the Castelli Romani region of Italy have conducted several wildlife rescue operations involving birds of prey.

In August, rangers in Rocca di Papa successfully rescued a young long-eared owl that had become trapped in a historic cable car facility undergoing renovation. This event prompted local discussions regarding the impact of urban development on wildlife.

By September, additional rescues were reported in the Velletri and Zagarolo areas. Rangers stabilized a small owl suffering from hypothermia and head trauma, as well as a honey buzzard with a serious leg injury. Both birds were transferred to the LIPU Wildlife Recovery Center in Rome for specialized veterinary rehabilitation as part of an ongoing partnership to return rescued animals to their natural habitats.
