WIOCC Group African digital infrastructure expansion
Overview
WIOCC Group has secured a combined $300 million investment from the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) and Saudi Arabia’s Vision International Investment Company to expand digital infrastructure across Africa.
The agreement, signed at the LEAP 2026 Global Technology exhibition in Riyadh, will fund the deployment and consolidation of data centers, the expansion of terrestrial fiber networks, and investments in subsea cable assets. These efforts aim to meet increasing demand for artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and digital services.
As of 2025, internet usage in Africa was reported at approximately 35.7%, significantly below the global average of 73.6%. Samaila Zubairu, President and CEO of AFC, noted that digital infrastructure has become as critical to economic development as energy and transport networks.
