WLGA Liquid Gas Week in Turkey
Overview
The World Liquid Gas Association (WLGA) hosted Liquid Gas Week in Istanbul, Turkey, from October 12–16, 2026. Under the theme ‘Resilience in a Changing World,’ the event gathered industry leaders to discuss energy security, accessibility, and low-carbon solutions.
During the event, Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar emphasized the importance of LPG as a flexible alternative during supply disruptions. He noted that Turkey maintains one of the most advanced LPG markets in the world, ranking second in European LPG consumption and leading in the number of LPG-powered vehicles.
International Energy Agency (IEA) Executive Director Fatih Birol addressed how geopolitical tensions, specifically the US/Israel-Iran conflict, have driven LPG prices up by an average of 60% compared to pre-conflict levels. Highlighting that over one-third of LPG trade passes through the Strait of Hormuz, Birol noted that the IEA is discussing a new LPG security mechanism with governments and industry representatives to mitigate supply risks.
