Women's economic empowerment initiatives in Latin America

Overview

Efforts to support women's economic empowerment and entrepreneurship have been highlighted through various summits and institutional collaborations in El Salvador and Mexico.

In El Salvador, the Crece Mujer 2026 Congress was announced for October, focusing on the theme “There is no economic empowerment without financial well-being” to strengthen financial resilience. Concurrently, the Asociación Mexicana de Mujeres Jefas de Empresa scheduled a National Summit in Saltillo, Mexico, to address leadership and commercial alliances.

In Mexico, the government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) entered a collaboration to evaluate the ‘Mujeres al Centro’ municipal entrepreneurship program. This initiative, which has supported approximately 8,000 women since 2022, aims to identify best practices for gender-focused economic resilience. Additionally, youth leaders from Sinaloa engaged in training with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to strengthen leadership in alignment with the 2030 Agenda.
