Women's rights and gender violence in Venezuela

In early November 2026, regional activities in Venezuela focused on both the promotion of gender equality and the enforcement of laws against gender-based violence.

In Aragua and Zulia, local authorities and organizations held initiatives to support women's rights. The Santiago Mariño Municipal Council in Aragua conducted a session to honor female leaders and protectors. Meanwhile, in the Lagunillas municipality of Zulia, the Municipal Institute of Women, in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund, provided journalism training to help media professionals report on gender-based violence without revictimizing survivors.

Concurrently, law enforcement in Zulia state conducted several operations targeting domestic abuse. The Bolivarian Police Corps reported the arrest of four individuals in the Maracaibo and Colón municipalities for alleged physical and psychological violence against women. These incidents included the arrest of a 19-year-old man following a report from a 14-year-old girl, the detention of two individuals for alleged aggression against an 18-year-old woman, and the apprehension of a man witnessed physically assaulting a woman.
