World Architecture Day observances in Turkey

Overview

In observance of World Architecture Day, various architectural professional groups and municipalities in Turkey held events to discuss the social and professional responsibilities of the field.

In Balıkesir and Konya, activities focused on social issues. The TMMOB Chamber of Architects Balıkesir Branch advocated for housing as a human right, with President Osman Zeki Şahin arguing that housing should not be treated merely as an investment tool. In Konya, the 9th Konya Architecture Festival opened under the theme ‘Architecture and Humanity,’ addressing global challenges such as climate change.

In Karşıyaka, the municipality hosted a meeting involving public and private sector architects, academics, and representatives from the Izmir Chamber of Architects. Discussions centered on the role of architects in local government, professional legal rights, and the impact of legislation on architectural practice. Mayor Yıldız Ünsal noted that architecture contributes directly to the quality of living spaces by shaping the present and future of cities.
