World Half Marathon Championships in Copenhagen

Former cross-country skiing champion Therese Johaug confirmed her participation in the Copenhagen Half Marathon, which served as the World Half Marathon Championships. Despite facing injuries and health challenges during the summer, the 38-year-old Norwegian athlete aimed to finish the race in under one hour and ten minutes.

Johaug delivered a standout performance by clocking a time of 1:08:43. Although she competed in the mass participation segment rather than the elite group, her result surpassed the Polish national record and was faster than the top European finisher in the official championship elite race.

In the elite women’s competition, Kenya’s Agnes Jebet Ngetich won with a time of 1:05:15, the fastest ever recorded in a women-only field. In the men’s category, Sweden’s Andreas Almgren won gold with a time of 58:06, setting a new European record and marking the first time a European male has won the championship half marathon in 30 years. Other notable results included Thijs Nijhuis placing 76th in the half marathon and Andreas Fjeld Halvorsen finishing 22nd in the men’s mile.
