World Naked Bike Ride in Berlin

The World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) held its inaugural event in Berlin on August 9, 2026. Organized by activist Ralf Sprenger and the Taunus-naked-Mountain-Bike group, the demonstration involved participants riding a route of approximately 30 to 33 kilometers through various landmarks.

Police estimated that between 500 and 700 cyclists participated, riding either fully or partially nude through sunny conditions with temperatures reaching 30°C. The route began at Mauerpark, passed through the government district—including the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag—and concluded in Schönefeld, following the path of the former Berlin Wall.

Authorities permitted the demonstration, noting it was intended to be non-sexual and family-friendly. Organizers stated the event aimed to promote naturism, body diversity, self-acceptance, and values of openness and respect. The initiative specifically sought to highlight the values of the German Freikörperkultur (FKK) movement, which has experienced declining membership in recent decades. Organizers emphasized that nudity serves to remove social status symbols and intended to convey messages of tolerance, environmental protection, and inclusion. While legally approved under assembly rights, the event drew mixed reactions from some members of the public.
