World Press Photo 2026 exhibitions

Overview

The World Press Photo 2026 exhibition, marking the 50th anniversary of the competition, is being held in Budapest and London. The Budapest exhibition at the Biodóm runs from September 25 to November 8 and features works selected from over 57,000 entries. It includes a special series by Sándor Bojár titled ‘Sortűz 1956’ as a tribute to the 1956 revolution.

Within the Budapest exhibition, photographers from 24.hu are presenting a collection titled ‘Fel is út, le is út’ (Up is the way, down is the way). This series of twenty images focuses on Hungary’s recent political regime change, using Péter Magyar as a narrative anchor to depict his transition from a party leader to prime minister. Other featured subjects include Viktor Orbán’s country tour, the visit of the US Vice President, and the formation of the new Parliament.

Organizer Tamás Révész noted that the exhibition focuses on critical global issues such as social conflicts, wars, the climate crisis, and human rights. Révész emphasized the importance of empathy and the unique experience of viewing powerful images in person rather than through a digital screen to help viewers understand the present. Additionally, in response to the rise of artificial intelligence, the organization addressed the authenticity of photojournalism, noting that World Press Photo utilizes advanced technological methods to verify image authenticity at the pixel level to distinguish genuine press photography from AI-generated content.
