WSL REMA 2026 event in Saquarema

The World Surf League (WSL) REMA 2026 event in Saquarema, Brazil, has expanded its scope to incorporate cultural elements alongside professional competition. The festival at Itaúna Beach includes musical performances and the ‘Cine REMA by Flamboiar’, a film program highlighting ocean preservation, the blue economy, and local surf culture.

The professional competition at the QS 6000 International concluded with Jackson Bunch (Hawaii) and Alyssa Spencer (USA) claiming the titles. In the men’s division, Bunch secured the championship by defeating fellow Hawaiian Luke Tema in the final, posting a total score of 15.74 against Tema’s 11.34. Bunch reached the final after a semifinal victory over Australia’s Jacob Willcox, while Peru’s Lucca Mesinas finished in third place. Brazil’s Heitor Mueller was the highest-ranking local competitor, finishing fifth.

In the women’s division, Alyssa Spencer won the title by defeating Spain’s Ariane Ochoa. Spencer recorded scores of 7.20 and 6.93 for a total of 14.13, while Ochoa finished with 10.06. This second-place finish for Ochoa significantly boosts her ranking as she pursues a spot on the Championship Tour. Brazilian surfer Sophia Medina finished third following a narrow semifinal loss to Spencer.
