WWE Gunther creative direction and storylines

Overview

Reports indicate frustration within the WWE creative team regarding the booking of Gunther on SmackDown. Following a period of dominance where he retired several legends, personnel have questioned his current character direction and utilization on the brand. While Gunther has expressed interest in pursuing the Undisputed WWE Championship, his recent storylines have shifted toward unusual segments involving the character Danhausen.

This tension has manifested in on-screen narratives, with Gunther issuing a warning to Danhausen ahead of a Halloween-themed episode of SmackDown titled ‘Very Nice, Very Evil SmackDown’. In a backstage interview, Gunther criticized the decision to highlight Danhausen, characterizing the special event as an attempt to make an ‘underprivileged weirdo’ feel as though he belongs in the WWE family. Gunther has promised to make the upcoming broadcast ‘very special’ for Danhausen following a previous physical confrontation between the two.
