X is expanding its Cashtags feature to bridge social media discussions with financial trading. The platform utilizes clickable symbols preceded by a dollar sign, such as $BTC or $AAPL, to provide users with real-time price charts and market commentary. To facilitate transactions without acting as a broker-dealer, X has established partnerships with various financial institutions. Following a pilot with Wealthsimple that reportedly generated $1 billion in trading volume within 48 hours, X expanded its reach through integrations with Coinbase and Interactive Brokers. Interactive Brokers offers US investors live market data and a $100 investment incentive for new clients who fund accounts via the Cashtags experience. Furthering this integration, X launched the Cashtag Partner Program in the United States. This program allows users to transition from social media conversations to authorized trading partners with minimal friction. Kraken has joined as an official partner, enabling users to move directly to a purchase screen on the exchange after interacting with a specific token's Cashtag. The U.S. Cashtag Partner Program has since expanded its roster of participating external exchanges and brokerages. Users can now access a ‘Trade’ button via Cashtags for stocks, ETFs, and cryptocurrencies, which redirects them to third-party platforms. The current group of U.S. partners includes Gemini, Coinbase, and Kraken for cryptocurrency trading, alongside Interactive Brokers and Moomoo for traditional financial products. X maintains that it does not execute trades or hold customer assets, acting instead as a bridge to these providers which manage order execution and account requirements.
