Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass continued its catalog rotation through August 2026. Early in the month, the service added Heretic + Hexen and Beast of Reincarnation, followed by Bounty Star, Date Everything!, and several game previews. In late August, the library expanded with the 2D platforming survival game Blood Dungeon and the fast-paced aerial action shooter Aerial_Knight’s DropShot, both arriving on August 25. On August 27, the service added the day-one title Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, a prequel set 15 years before A Plague Tale: Requiem that follows the character Sophia. Other August arrivals included Vapor World: Over the Mind and BlazBlue Entropy Effect X, while several titles, such as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered Edition and Another Crab’s Treasure, are scheduled to depart on August 31. Other games slated to exit the catalog include I Am Your Beast, Neon Abyss, and One Lonely Outpost, with NBA 2K26 expected to leave in early September. Simultaneously, Microsoft is conducting 25th-anniversary celebrations leading up to November 15, 2026. This includes a global FanFest tour, community-created digital assets, and a commemorative profile badge for users signing in through the end of the year. Anniversary initiatives also include the relaunch of the Xbox Gear online store and a partnership with McDonald’s in the UK and Ireland. As part of its broader commitment to game preservation, Microsoft has launched a “Disc-to-Digital” program, internally codenamed “Positron.” Starting August 31, 2026, Xbox Insiders in the Alpha Skip-Ahead and Alpha rings can test a feature that converts supported Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S physical discs into digital licenses. This allows for play via Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Cloud Gaming without the disc. Early testing indicates approximately 1,212 games are compatible, including major titles like “Halo Infinite,” “Cyberpunk 2077,” and “Baldur’s Gate 3.”
