Yemen public health and nutrition initiatives

Overview

Yemen’s Ministry of Public Health and Population has focused on addressing nutritional crises and strengthening health system capacity. In Aden, Minister Dr. Qasem Mohammed Buhaybeh met with the World Food Programme to discuss expanding interventions for malnutrition and stunting among women and children, emphasizing the need to link primary healthcare with maternal and child nutrition programs.

Following these discussions, the Ministry concluded 2026 training programs organized by the National Institute of Public Health. The Minister advocated for a transition toward the ‘One Health’ approach—integrating human, animal, and environmental health—and emphasized the importance of using epidemiological research and data-driven policies to improve responses to health risks. These capacity-building efforts have received support from the World Health Organization and UNICEF.
