Yeongjong-gu local administration and development

Son Hwa-jeong, the inaugural head of Incheon’s newly established Yeongjong-gu, has introduced a strategic vision to develop the district into a leading airport economic capital. Her administration’s initial priorities focus on local infrastructure, including expanding medical services through public hospitals and pharmacies, and improving transportation via the integration of the GTX-D/E lines, the second airport railway, and the Incheon KTX extension.

To drive economic growth, the administration aims to develop an aviation maintenance cluster and a bio national industrial complex, while attracting semiconductor firms. Son has also conducted field inspections to address immediate resident concerns regarding waste management, road maintenance, and school zone safety.

Expanding on the district’s role as a global gateway, Son has emphasized Yeongjong-gu’s potential as a hub for international cooperation. During a cultural event commemorating South Korea-China diplomatic relations, she expressed intentions to foster Northeast Asian coexistence through enhanced cultural, economic, and human exchanges, positioning the district as an open, global autonomous city.
