Youth peer violence prevention initiatives in Croatia
Overview
In late October 2026, educational initiatives in Croatia emerged to address peer violence and the impact of social media on youth. In Rijeka, high school students launched the 21st edition of the ‘Akcija za 5!’ project. This initiative involves approximately 30 students from 16 schools working to design projects for a safer digital environment, supported by the City of Rijeka and the Delta Association. Experts noted that the program addresses significant challenges, including the rise of AI-generated manipulated content and the fact that “one in three students has encountered some form of cyberbullying.”
Concurrently, the Dr. Antun Barca Secondary School in Crikvenica announced a public forum titled “#iza ekrana – Nije sve samo šala!” (Behind the Screen – It is Not Just a Joke!) scheduled for November 3, 2026. As part of the international CARING 2.0 project, the forum seeks to facilitate dialogue between students and professionals to explore the boundaries between teasing and violence in the context of social media.
