Yucatán disability and inclusion initiatives

Overview

The Yucatán government has launched several initiatives through the DIF Yucatán and the Special Rehabilitation and Education Center (CREE) to support individuals with disabilities and neurodivergent needs.

In early August 2026, Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena established a partnership with Uber Mexico to provide free transportation for patients at CREE. Following this, the state implemented the RESPIRA Protocol, a training program led by CREE to educate 200 public servants from eight state agencies. The training focuses on assisting autistic individuals by teaching staff to recognize and manage sensory deregulation, aiming to prevent crises caused by environmental stimuli and ensure respectful accompaniment for both patients and caregivers.
