Yucatán economic development and investment initiatives
Overview
Yucatán Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena has introduced the ‘Renacimiento Maya’ initiative, a strategic plan aimed at positioning the state as a major destination for productive capital and job creation.
Initially, the Governor presented an investment portfolio to Concanaco Servytur México featuring 88 private projects valued at over 151 billion pesos, with the potential to create more than 79,000 jobs. This portfolio emphasizes infrastructure such as the expansion of the Port of Progreso, the Maya Freight Train, and the development of Bienestar Development Poles. The administration is also prioritizing energy security through the Cuxtal II gas pipeline and new power plants to reach 4,225 megawatts by 2030.
Following this, the Governor met with the president of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE) to further promote these projects. He highlighted Yucatán’s strategic location in the Gulf of Mexico and its proximity to the United States as advantages for companies relocating supply chains during the USMCA review. Discussions focused on the three-stage expansion of the Port of Progreso and the integration of a freight rail branch connecting the Maya Train to the Progreso zone.
