The feature‑length documentary “Yugo ide u Ameriku,” directed by Filip Grujić and Aleksa Borković, debuted at CPH:DOX in Copenhagen, earning audience and TEEN‑section awards, and received praise from HBO documentary‑maker John Wilson as a “great, fun ride.” Following festival screenings in the Balkans, including awards at Beldocs and the Sarajevo Film Festival, the film began its Serbian theatrical rollout on 3 September, distributed by Art Vista and shown in cinemas across Serbia after an earlier premiere in Pula. In late July 2026, the documentary launched a nationwide cinema tour in Croatia. Managed by the Restart label, the tour commenced on 17 August with a premiere in Split at Ljetno kino Bačvice. The tour includes screenings in Supetar (Brač), Šibenik, Zadar, Hvar, Jelsa, and Bol, with a scheduled Zagreb premiere on 26 August. The directors are set to attend these showings. As part of the Kino Zona program, a screening is scheduled for 20 August in Zadar at the plateau next to the Zadar City Library. This event will feature a discussion with the directors regarding the film’s motivations and behind-the-scenes moments. The film follows a group of millennials on a 10,000-kilometer road trip from New York to Los Angeles in a vintage Yugo, an iconic socialist-era automobile. The narrative explores the history of the Yugo’s attempt to enter the American market in the 1980s, serving as a nostalgic exploration of identity and youth. During the 50-day journey across approximately 25 US states, the filmmakers encountered mechanical issues that were frequently resolved with assistance from people of Bosnian descent.
