In late July 2026 Zelensky’s office asked Ukraine’s prosecutor‑general to open war‑crimes proceedings against Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, citing forced transfers of Ukrainian children and Belarus’s support for Russian operations. A few days later former prime minister Nikolai Azarov accused Zelensky of deliberately obstructing presidential elections, alleging that personnel reshuffles and other maneuvers were used to prevent a vote under martial law and mobilization. On 3 August 2026 Zelensky signed a decree dismissing Olha Stefanishyna as Ukraine’s extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to the United States.
