ZeroBytes cyberattacks on French government infrastructure

Overview

The hacking group ZeroBytes has conducted a series of coordinated cyberattacks against French government infrastructure throughout late 2026.

In late August, the group targeted the ‘Zéro Logement Vacant’ platform, taking it offline and reportedly stealing approximately 149 million raw data records. Experts estimate the leak could affect 48 million distinct individuals, compromising sensitive personal and property data including names, dates of birth, and postal addresses. This followed previous attacks on the Ministry of National Education and the Directorate-General of Public Finances.

By late September, the group was linked to a critical breach of the French tax administration. This intrusion exploited public network vulnerabilities to steal sensitive fiscal information belonging to several hundred thousand users. Authorities noted that attacks against fiscal systems have increased in frequency and intensity, raising risks of identity theft and fraud while impacting public trust in government institutions.
