Zurich Insurance Tesla FSD pricing integration
Overview
Zurich Australian Insurance Limited has introduced a motor insurance pricing model that incorporates Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) (Supervised) technology as a rating factor. Through its ‘InsureMyTesla’ offering, the company aims to adjust premiums to reflect the lower risk profile associated with supervised autonomous driving.
According to the insurer, Tesla data suggests that vehicles using FSD (Supervised) experience seven times fewer major or minor collisions than standard electric vehicles. Alex Morgan, head of General Insurance at Zurich, stated that while machines are not perfect, they “generally commit fewer errors than humans, who are prone to fatigue and distraction.”
Zurich is the second insurer globally to utilize FSD data for risk assessment. However, the company noted that the technology does not mitigate risks from external factors such as theft, weather damage, or collisions involving non-autonomous objects.
