AIVD warns of growing insider threats to organizations
The General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD) has released a publication titled ‘Resilient against threats from within’ to address the rising risk of insider threats. Intelligence research indicates that foreign intelligence services, extremist groups, and criminal networks are increasingly utilizing insiders within both public and private sectors.
These threats involve the theft of intellectual property, personnel data, technology, and confidential information, as well as potential sabotage. The AIVD distinguishes between intentional insiders, who act with purpose to cause damage through espionage, influence, sabotage, or corruption, and non-intentional insiders who may cause harm inadvertently.
While the AIVD primarily focuses on threats to national security and Dutch interests, the findings and advice provided are applicable to a broader range of organizations seeking to manage internal risks and systemic vulnerabilities.
