Waalwijk and Ridderkerk flats evacuated in Netherlands over fire and carbon monoxide

In Waalwijk, a forgotten pan left with oil on a stove caused a heavy smoke incident on 29 July. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, prevented it from spreading, and evacuated surrounding apartments. No injuries were reported and damage was limited to smoke damage in the affected unit.

In Ridderkerk, the Tourmalijn I apartment complex was evacuated after high concentrations of carbon monoxide were detected. The building, which had been partially evacuated in May after a similar leak that hospitalised two residents, was cleared of its 68 units as the gas supply was shut off and investigations began. Residents were temporarily housed in a nearby restaurant, and authorities are working with the building manager to resolve the source of the leak.
