Belgium and Netherlands brace for extended August heatwave
The Royal Meteorological Institute (KMI) in Belgium forecasts daily maximum temperatures above 30 °C on August 9, 12 and 13, with highs around 31‑32 °C expected from August 8 through 16. Nighttime lows are projected to stay above 20 °C and rain is unlikely, indicating a prolonged period of tropical heat.
In the Netherlands, meteorologist Wouter van Bernebeek reported a fourth regional heatwave in the Brabant area, with temperatures reaching 31‑33 °C on Monday and Tuesday and night temperatures remaining above 20 °C. A brief chance of rain and thunderstorms is possible Monday night, after which temperatures are expected to fall to the high 20s by mid‑week.
