Super El Niño breaks records as Bulgaria enters autumn cooling
Scientists are warning of a potentially historic climate event as the ‘Super El Niño’ phenomenon breaks temperature records. Sea surface temperatures in the tropical Pacific have reached 3.07°C, matching the 2015–2016 peak. Experts, including UN climate report co-author Zeke Hausfather, suggest temperatures could peak at 4.0°C above normal by November or December, potentially making this the most powerful El Niño in 1,000 years.
In Bulgaria, the transition to autumn is marked by a significant cooling trend. Temperatures across the country are dropping, with highs ranging between 17°C and 22°C. The Black Sea coast, including Burgas, is experiencing cloudy skies, wind, and intermittent rain. While the sea remains relatively warm at approximately 22°C to 24°C, northwesterly winds are increasing the perceived chill. In mountainous regions like Rila-Rhodope and the Stara Planina, rain and snow are expected at altitudes above 2,200 meters.
