Bulgaria to receive Dutch mine hunter vessels by October

Bulgaria is set to receive the first of seven specialized mine hunter vessels from the Netherlands, with the arrival expected by October at the latest. This acquisition is part of a bilateral defense cooperation agreement aimed at enhancing the Bulgarian Navy's capabilities and supporting maritime security in the Black Sea.

During a meeting between Bulgarian Defense Minister Dimităr Stoianov and Dutch Ambassador Arthur den Hartog, it was confirmed that the delivery includes necessary logistical equipment and spare parts. The initiative is intended to ensure safer navigation for all Black Sea coastal states.

In addition to naval upgrades, Bulgaria has officially inquired with the Netherlands regarding the potential lease of up to eight F-16 fighter jets to operate until 2030. Discussions also covered broader NATO priorities, including military modernization, cybersecurity, and continued support for Ukraine.
