Bulgarian Defense Minister warns of Iranian hybrid operations
Bulgarian Defense Minister Dimitar Stoyanov has accused Iran of conducting a successful hybrid operation that was allegedly aided by Bulgarian opposition politicians. Speaking ahead of an extraordinary meeting of the Defense Commission, Stoyanov warned that such hybrid operations are expected to continue and called for greater responsibility among politicians when commenting on Iranian positions.
Addressing recent concerns regarding the departure of U.S. Air Force aerial refueling tankers from the Bezmer airbase, Stoyanov clarified that the aircraft left according to a pre-established plan. He noted that while the information was not shared with the public due to operational security, the departure was scheduled and expected.
The Defense Commission is also set to review several military procurement and cooperation measures. These include the ratification of an agreement with the Netherlands for the purchase of three Tripartite-class mine hunters (HNLMS Zierikzee, HNLMS Willemstad, and HNLMS Schiedam) and a memorandum of understanding involving Belgium and the Netherlands regarding mine hunter operations. Additionally, the commission will consider amendments to international agreements concerning the acquisition of Stryker combat vehicles and Javelin anti-tank missiles.
