Celestial events offer spectacular views in Europe this October

October 2026 offers several celestial events for observers in Europe. The Draconid meteor shower is active from October 6 to 10, reaching its peak on the nights of October 8 and 9. Unlike many other showers, the Draconids are best viewed in the early evening because their radiant point in the constellation Draco remains high in the sky after dark.

Additionally, the US weather agency NOAA has issued a geomagnetic storm warning for Friday, which could result in aurora borealis sightings in certain latitudes. The new moon on October 10 provides particularly dark skies, enhancing viewing conditions. Later in the month, the Southern Taurids and Orionids will provide further meteor opportunities, followed by the Hunter’s Moon full moon on October 26.
