Chicago Cubs edge closer to playoffs after 9-1 win over Reds

The Chicago Cubs moved closer to clinching a postseason berth with a 9-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Pete Crow-Armstrong led the offensive surge, hitting his 45th home run of the season, which ties him with Kyle Schwarber for the MLB home run lead. Crow-Armstrong also recorded his 38th stolen base, placing him just two away from a historic 40-40 season.

However, the victory was overshadowed by an injury to third baseman Alex Bregman. During the fourth inning, Bregman was struck in the face by a foul ball hit by Michael Busch while standing in the on-deck circle. Bregman was forced to leave the game and was subsequently transported to a hospital for examination. Manager Craig Counsell reported that Bregman suffered swelling and a cut below his left eye near the cheekbone.

Other notable performances included Seiya Suzuki, who contributed hits during the series, and pitching from David Peterson. The Cubs' win reduces their magic number to one for securing a Wild Card spot, depending on the outcome of the Arizona Diamondbacks' game.
