CNAIR investigates theft of construction materials in Romania

Investigations are underway regarding the disappearance of large quantities of construction materials from the assets of the National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration (CNAIR) in Romania.

In the Murgeni District, an inventory conducted by the Iași Regional Directorate of Roads and Bridges (DRDP Iași) revealed a shortage of approximately 595.77 tons of crushed stone and riprap, valued at roughly 145,000 lei. CNAIR has initiated civil proceedings against the manager of the district to recover the losses.

A larger investigation involves the disappearance of 8,000 tons of ballast from the Fălciu locality in Vaslui County, valued at over 1.2 million lei. This loss occurred between late 2025 and 2026. Alexandru Cazacu, an employee of the Production Section, was detained for 24 hours by the Bârlad Prosecutor's Office in connection with this case.

Internal tensions have surfaced within DRDP Iași, with the road workers' union calling for the dismissal of General Director Mugurel Laicu. Allegations have been made regarding connections between the detained employee and the director's administration.
