Romania A1 motorway projects reach key construction milestones

Major infrastructure projects on Romania's A1 motorway are seeing significant progress. On the Margina–Holdea sector, physical progress has reached approximately 70%, according to DRDP Timișoara. Key developments include the installation of beams for several passages and viaducts, with work continuing on concrete slabs and road surfaces.

On the Sibiu–Pitești motorway, specifically Section 4 between Tigveni and Curtea de Argeș, the lighting system has been completed and is currently undergoing verification. This section includes the Curtea de Argeș tunnel, a 1.35-kilometer bored tunnel—the first of its kind on a Romanian motorway. The tunnel is equipped with over 2,500 sensors and intelligent AI-based video cameras designed to detect hazardous situations, such as objects on the roadway, to enhance traffic safety.

While the contractual deadline for the Sibiu–Pitești section is February 2027, authorities suggest a possible earlier opening. Once Section 4 is operational, drivers will be able to use approximately 54 kilometers of the total 122-kilometer motorway project.
