Diesel prices in the Netherlands hit record 2.824 euros per liter

Diesel prices in the Netherlands have reached a record high of 2.824 euros per liter, according to the discount platform UnitedConsumers. This follows a previous record set in April. Additionally, Euro95 gasoline recently hit a record level of 2.726 euros per liter.

Several geopolitical and supply factors are driving the increase. Conflict between the United States and Iran has disrupted fuel exports from Gulf states, which are critical suppliers for Europe following the EU's ban on Russian diesel. Furthermore, S&P Global reports that Russia has halted diesel exports due to domestic shortages, exacerbating global scarcity.

In the Netherlands, fuel costs are heavily influenced by taxes, as the country maintains the highest excise duties in the European Union. Meanwhile, Germany has announced a reduction in excise duties to provide financial relief to motorists and transporters.
