Dietary studies link whole grains to heart health and clarify protein needs

A meta-analysis published in the European Heart Journal, involving data from 87 clinical studies across Asia, Europe, North America, Australia, and Brazil, suggests that consuming four to six servings of whole grain foods daily can significantly improve cardiovascular health. The research, led by Helda Tutunchi from Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, indicates that higher whole grain consumption helps reduce body weight, waist circumference, blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood glucose levels.

Regarding protein intake, nutritional guidelines vary based on individual factors such as body weight, age, activity level, and health status. For a healthy adult weighing 70 kilograms, the basic recommendation is approximately 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight, totaling about 56 grams daily. However, requirements may increase for those focused on weight loss or strength training. Experts emphasize distinguishing between the total weight of a food item and its actual protein content when tracking daily intake.
