Extreme heat grips much of the US with high heat index values
Extreme heat and high humidity are impacting large portions of the United States, triggering various weather alerts and public health precautions. In Middle Tennessee, an Extreme Heat Warning is in effect through Sunday evening, with heat index values expected to reach up to 112 degrees. Similarly, Clarksville-Montgomery County faces dangerous heat with index values potentially hitting 109.
In the Heartland, heat index values could climb as high as 115 degrees. Georgia is also under significant stress, with a Heat Advisory in effect for much of the north and central regions, including Cobb County, where temperatures and humidity will keep heat indices well into the 100s. Metro Atlanta is facing an extended Heat Advisory through Monday, with index values between 105 and 110 degrees.
In the Desert Southwest, an extreme heat warning is set to begin Monday in the Yuma County and Imperial Valley regions, with temperatures expected to reach approximately 110 degrees. Additionally, a warming and drying trend in the Southland is increasing wildfire risks, with triple-digit temperatures anticipated mid-week. In response to the extreme conditions, Monroe County has opened several temporary cooling stations to provide relief to residents.
