Fruit and vegetable prices show mixed trends in UK and Netherlands

Wholesale and retail fruit prices experienced significant fluctuations during week 43 in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.

In the UK, wholesale strawberry prices rose by 46%, increasing from a weekly average of £3.24 to £4.73 per kg. Blackberries and raspberries also saw price hikes of 37% and 21%, respectively. While some apple varieties like Gala and Cox's Orange increased slightly in price, mid-season apples saw a 25% decrease.

In the Dutch retail market, strawberry prices rose to an average of €3.49 per 400 grams, largely due to the conclusion of various promotional offers at retailers such as Albert Heijn and Hoogvliet. Mango prices also increased to an average of €1.73 per unit following the end of discounts. Conversely, cucumber and blueberry prices trended downward in the Netherlands.
