Ghana Premier League prepares for 2026/27 season kickoff
The 2026/27 Ghana Premier League (GPL) season is set to commence this weekend, featuring significant squad overhauls and managerial changes across the league's 18 clubs.
Traditional powerhouses Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak have undergone major rebuilds. Kotoko has appointed South African coach Eric Tinkler and bolstered its roster with international signings, including Moroccan goalkeeper Abdel Wadie Mourad. Hearts of Oak has appointed Bosnian coach Nebojša Kapor and completed ten new player signings to reshape their squad.
Defending champions Medeama SC will enter the season under head coach Tanko Ibrahim, having also been active in the transfer market. The league will also feature five foreign coaches, including Petros Koukouras at Bibiani Gold Stars, Predrag Jeredic at Vision FC, and Kasim Gokyildiz at Heart of Lions.
In preparation for the kickoff, the Ghana Football Association's Technical Directorate is organizing a virtual workshop for coaches to discuss professionalism and technical standards. The opening weekend schedule includes fixtures such as Vision FC hosting Young Apostles on September 5, with match officials already designated for the opening round of matches.
