Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy to feature historic yachts in Saint-Tropez
The 15th edition of the Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy is set to take place in the bay of Saint-Tropez. Organized by the Gstaad Yacht Club in collaboration with the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez as part of Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, the event features approximately twenty yachts that are over one hundred years old.
The competition utilizes a pursuit race format, where vessels start at staggered times based on their specific handicap ratings. The first yacht to cross the finish line in front of the Tour du Portalet is declared the winner. Forecasts indicate light winds between 3 and 6 knots, which may lead to a highly competitive race decided by small tactical maneuvers.
Notable participants include Mauro Pelaschier, who returns to defend his title aboard the 1925 Leonore, and the Yacht Club de Monaco flagship, Tuiga (1909). Other significant vessels mentioned include the Fife-designed Sumurun.
