Inclisiran shows 56% reduction in LDL cholesterol in new study
A new clinical study, the VICTORION-Challenge, has demonstrated the significant efficacy of inclisiran in reducing LDL cholesterol levels. Presented at the 2026 European Society of Cardiology congress and published in the European Heart Journal, the phase 4 randomized study involved 402 adults with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and LDL levels of 70 mg/dL or higher. After 150 days, inclisiran reduced LDL cholesterol by 56.3%, compared to a 15.4% reduction observed with bempedoic acid.
High LDL cholesterol is a primary modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular disease, contributing to the formation of atherosclerotic plaques. When LDL levels remain elevated, they can lead to peripheral artery disease (PAD), where plaque buildup narrows the arteries in the legs. Symptoms of this condition include intermittent cramps, tingling, cold skin, and reduced blood flow during physical exertion. Early recognition of these signs is critical to preventing complications such as ulcers, critical ischemia, and major cardiovascular events.
