Indomet warns of thunderstorms and high heat in Dominican Republic

The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) has reported that a tropical wave will trigger local showers, isolated thunderstorms, and occasional wind gusts across several provinces in the Dominican Republic this Friday.

Morning showers with isolated thunder are expected in La Altagracia, Samaná, María Trinidad Sánchez, Duarte, Barahona, and Pedernales. In the afternoon, cloud cover and storms are anticipated in Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Sánchez Ramírez, Duarte, La Vega, Espaillat, Santiago, and Santiago Rodríguez, with activity potentially lasting into the night.

Temperatures are expected to remain high across much of the country, with maximums between 34°C and 36°C and higher thermal sensations. Indomet has advised the public to stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and avoid direct sun exposure between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., noting that children, the elderly, and pregnant women are particularly vulnerable.

Regarding maritime conditions, Indomet issued a warning for small and medium-sized vessels to exercise caution along the southern and southwestern Caribbean coasts due to abnormal waves. The Atlantic and remaining Caribbean coasts remain without navigation restrictions.
