Italy weather forecast: heatwave followed by storms and temperature drops

Italy is experiencing a significant shift in weather patterns, transitioning from late-summer warmth to autumnal instability. Initially, subtropical high pressure is expected to bring sunny skies and temperatures reaching up to 30°C in Central and Southern regions, with Northern areas seeing highs around 27-28°C.

However, a rapid deterioration is forecast starting mid-week. A dual depression system will impact the country, bringing rain, thunderstorms, and potential hail. The Southern regions, including Calabria and Sicily, face increased risks of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. Specifically, Puglia and Basilicata are expected to see intense showers and wind gusts.

Cold air masses from the Balkans are contributing to a sharp drop in temperatures, particularly in the Adriatic sector and Southern Italy. While the North remains relatively stable under the influence of an African anticyclone, the South and Islands will face more dynamic and unsettled conditions. A gradual improvement and return to stable, sunny weather is anticipated toward the weekend.
