Lebanese President Joseph Aoun accuses Israel of violating framework agreement

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has accused Israel of violating the framework agreement established during Washington negotiations. During a meeting with Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Sjoerd Sjoerdsma in Beirut, Aoun stated that Israeli forces continue to conduct shelling and destroy property in southern villages.

Aoun reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), noting its vital role. He added that if the mission's mandate cannot be extended, Lebanon would welcome other friendly or brotherly nations to provide similar humanitarian, social, and educational support to the south.

The President also defended the Lebanese Army, asserting that it is fully performing its duties in the model areas where it has redeployed. He emphasized that efforts to discredit the military are intended to undermine its commitment to political authority decisions.

In a separate address to the Bekaa development delegation, Aoun stated that the primary objectives of ongoing negotiations are to protect Lebanese sovereignty and stability while avoiding the devastation of war. He also praised Speaker Nabih Berri for emphasizing national unity and the Taif Agreement as essential pillars for civil peace.
