Madonna's voice defies natural aging patterns, study finds

A linguistic study conducted by researchers from the University of Copenhagen and Aarhus University suggests that Madonna’s voice does not follow the typical patterns of female aging. Published in the Nordic Journal of English Studies, the research analyzed television interviews from the 1980s through 2021 using acoustic measurements of pitch and vowel pronunciation.

While female voices often become deeper during menopause due to changes in vocal folds and muscle elasticity, Madonna’s vocal pitch has shown an irregular, non-linear trajectory. For instance, while a notable drop in pitch occurred around 2013 when she was 55, her tone rose again in subsequent years. Linguist Anna Bothe Jespersen noted that her voice appears younger than her chronological age and that her vowel articulation does not align with typical patterns associated with her generation or geographic background.

Researchers suggest this may be a result of deliberate vocal adaptation to maintain a youthful, global identity, though they could not confirm if hormonal therapy or conscious effort played a larger role.
