Mid-South weather: Near-record heat expected through Thursday

The Mid-South and parts of the central United States are experiencing unseasonably high temperatures this week. In DeSoto County and the Memphis area, the National Weather Service forecasts highs in the low 90s through Thursday, which is approximately 15 degrees above the seasonal average.

Forecasted temperatures for Southaven include highs between 91 and 93 degrees. These figures approach or may exceed historical daily records, such as the 93-degree record set in 2015. Forecasters noted that increasing dewpoints may lead to more humid and less pleasant conditions. A strong cold front is expected to arrive on Friday, bringing a significant cooldown and more typical fall temperatures for the weekend.
