Coffee intake linked to reduced liver and heart disease risk
A large observational study of 354,957 UK Biobank participants followed for more than 13 years found that regular coffee consumption – even as little as one to two cups a day and up to five or more – was associated with a lower incidence of serious liver conditions, including cirrhosis, liver cancer, fatty liver disease, reduced liver fat, lower inflammation and lower iron overload. The protective association was observed for both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee, suggesting compounds other than caffeine may play a role. European food‑safety authorities echo the 400 mg limit, adding that a single cup (≈75 mg caffeine) is sufficient for short‑term alertness.
