Montenegro advances EU accession path and energy transition

Montenegro is advancing its European integration and energy transition. European Commissioner Marta Kos indicated that technical negotiations could conclude by early 2027, with a potential accession agreement signed in summer 2027, potentially making Montenegro the EU's 28th member by 2028. An indicative roadmap for the country is expected in late October.

In the energy sector, Minister Admir Šahmanović highlighted significant progress, including the completion of the first phase of the 54.6 MW Gvozd wind farm and investments in the transmission grid. A 25 million euro credit arrangement with the AFD is set for substation modernization. Additionally, EPCG is shifting its focus toward renewable energy and storage solutions.

Other developments include Montenegro establishing healthcare cooperation with Tuscany for professional training and exchange. Economically, the country recorded a historic low unemployment rate of 7.4 percent in August. France has also reaffirmed its strong support for Montenegro's European path and bilateral economic cooperation.
