Nature fires break out in various regions of the Netherlands

Large-scale nature fires have broken out in several regions of the Netherlands, including the Herperduin nature reserve near Oss and areas near Venray and the A50 motorway near Heteren.

In Oss, a fire covering an area of approximately 100 by 150 meters erupted in the Herperduin area. Emergency services brought the blaze under control by 7:45 AM, though crews remained on-site to prevent reignition. Residents in the vicinity of Berghem and Oss were advised to keep windows and doors closed due to heavy smoke.

In other regions, fire brigades from Velp, Dieren, and multiple other provinces collaborated to combat significant wildfires. The scale of the situation led to a GRIP 3 escalation, allowing for coordinated regional emergency management. Defense forces assisted in the firefighting efforts, deploying Chinook helicopters to drop water from the Maas river using specialized water bags. Smoke from these fires spread across large parts of the country. Authorities have issued warnings regarding the high risk of wildfires due to prolonged dry weather.
