Nestlé recalls infant formula in Poland due to toxin detection

The Chief Sanitary Inspectorate (GIS) has issued an urgent warning regarding the recall of NAN OPTIpro 1 infant formula (650g) distributed by Nestlé Polska S.A. The product, manufactured in the Netherlands, is being withdrawn from sales and from consumers due to the detection of cereulide, a toxin produced by Bacillus cereus bacteria that can cause vomiting.

Two specific batches are affected, both with an expiration date of June 2027: batch number L-53430346BA, where the toxin was directly detected, and batch number L-53440346BA, which Nestlé is withdrawing as a precautionary measure because it was produced immediately after the contaminated batch.

Experts from the National Institute of Public Health PZH-NIZP assessed the risk, noting that while a single consumption is unlikely to cause toxic effects, long-term consumption of the affected batches could lead to negative health consequences. The detected level of cereulide remains below the European Union's intervention threshold established by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). Parents are advised to check the bottom of their packaging for the batch numbers and to contact medical professionals if symptoms occur after consumption.
