Netherlands companies pilot smart EV charging solutions
Several Dutch companies are introducing new technologies to optimize electric vehicle (EV) charging and integrate them more effectively into the energy grid.
Hegg Energy has announced ‘Slim Laden’, a service designed to automatically charge EVs during periods when electricity is cheapest and most sustainable. By utilizing dynamic energy pricing, the system identifies optimal charging windows based on user-defined schedules. The service is compatible with numerous major automotive brands, including Tesla, Volkswagen, BMW, and Ford. Additionally, Hegg Energy offers ‘ERE Sparen’, allowing users with certified meters to automatically collect and trade ERE certificates via a partnership with Plugchoice.
In a separate initiative, BlueBird Power and Blue Current are launching a pilot program in the Netherlands involving approximately 200 smart home charging points. This collaboration aims to simplify the installation process, potentially allowing users to mount and configure charging points themselves to reduce professional installation hours and costs. The pilot will test how charging capacity can be managed across various energy and flexibility markets, including day-ahead, intraday, and congestion management. The companies aim to scale this model to thousands of charging points by 2027.
