Netherlands governing coalition loses 40% of voters in new polls
One year after the last elections, recent polling indicates that the Dutch governing coalition has lost approximately 40% of its voter base. The three main government parties have collectively lost 27 seats compared to their previous standing.
Key shifts in voter preference include losses for D66, which is seeing voters move toward PRO, and the VVD, with voters shifting toward JA21. The CDA has also seen a decline, with its lost seats primarily going to 50PLUS and JA21. Additionally, PVV voters are moving toward FVD and JA21.
The minority government faces a critical challenge in three weeks, as it must secure a majority for its budget. Achieving this requires complex negotiations with other parties, a task complicated by the diverging views of the coalition's own voter bases regarding potential cooperation with parties like PRO or JA21.
